Meet Our Team

Martin Burke, DO.

A former chief of cardiology at a top-tier academic medical center, he is a respected teacher, mentor and academician who has authored and co-authored many articles in esteemed scientific journals. Dr. Burke is a national and international authority in cardiac electrophysiology, with emphasis on the basic mechanisms and clinical applications of cardiac defibrillation. His clinical research interests encompass the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias through intracardiac device and radiofrequency catheter ablation techniques, including atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, and laser removal of therapeutic devices for cardiac arrhythmias.

Carrie Brown, MSN, ACNP

Carrie Brown is a board-certified Advanced Practice Nurse, with fifteen years of experience in cardiology and ten years of experience in electrophysiology. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Michigan in 2005, and her master’s degree in nursing from Rush University in 2009. Carrie has worked at several renowned academic medical centers during her career and has been working alongside our physicians at CorVita Health & Associates since 2016. In addition to nursing, she works as a preceptor and teacher for advanced practice nursing students at Rush University. More recently, Carrie has taken on the role of research coordinator at CorVita Health.

Jack Kamenske, ACNP

Jack is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner with a robust background in all aspects of bedside nursing. He has been employed at Corvita Health since March 2020. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with both his BSN and MSN in Nursing. His prior experience at Mercy Hospital and Advocate Christ equipped him with the necessary skills to become the provider he is today. During his time as a bedside nurse, he was honored with the Nursing Excellence Award. Overall, he is known for his autonomous, goal-centered approach to patient care, combined with a personable and supportive demeanor. His outgoing personality and sense of humor allow him to build strong, trusting relationships with patients and colleagues alike. Jack serves as a preceptor for new hires and Nurse Practitioner students from Rush University and NIU, reflecting his commitment to education and mentorship. As the Watchman liaison of the practice, Jack plays a crucial role in guiding patients through their treatment options. A native of the South Suburbs of Chicago, he is deeply rooted in the local community and is passionate about contributing to its overall health and well-being. In his personal time, when he’s not busy being a husband and father of two children, Jack enjoys playing golf, traveling, and expanding his knowledge as a food connoisseur.

Matt Vonachen, MSN, AGACNP-BC.

Matt Vonachen is a board-certified Advanced Practice Nurse with experience in cardiology and hospital medicine. He received his BSN from Lewis University in 2016 and his Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner MSN from Lewis University in 2023. Prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner, he worked as an intensive care registered nurse for seven years, gaining experience in recovering patients from open-heart surgery and electrophysiology studies. He also worked in a neuro-intensive care unit, where he gained experience in recovering patients after brain surgery, stroke, and trauma.


Janet Mercado, Executive Assistant

Janet Mercado is the Executive Assistant for Corvita Health & Associates. She has approximately 26 years of experience working alongside medical professionals in a clerical capacity. She left the University of Chicago of 17 years to pursue a new challenge with Martin C. Burke, DO. Janet comes from a Hispanic background and speaks Spanish. Her second language has proved to be a very positive experience in the workplace. It has allowed her to help others who have language barriers. Working hard and helping others is her driving force. In her free time she likes to read, get together with friends & family and have spa days with her granddaughters.

Lily Perez, Clinic Coordinator

Lily Perez is the Clinic Coordinator for CorVita Health & Associates, bringing four years of diverse customer service experience to the role. With a passion for connecting with others, she is currently pursuing a degree in Applied Psychology, aligning with her desire to help people. Outside of work, Lily enjoys reading and analyzing literature, with a particular fondness for the classics. She also loves traveling and attending concerts in her spare time.

Vanessa Harrington- Clinic Coordinator

Vanessa Harrington is a clinical coordinator for CorVita Health & Associates having worked in the medical field for the past 10 years. She began working with an Ophthalmology clinic and surgical suite. She has been a surgical coordinator for the last two and a half years. Her dedication to helping others and through her hard work, Vanessa has received the training necessary to be a surgical scrub for Ophthalmology. Vanessa has decided to attain a new professional opportunity with Dr. Martin C. Burke, D.O. in efforts to expand her knowledge beyond that of Ophthalmology. Vanessa enjoys spending priceless time with her two beautiful daughters as they pursue their passions for swimming and cheer. She is of Hispanic heritage, she is bilingual, and strives to help as many people and patients as she possibly can through her work.

Jennifer Murray, Device Technician

Jennifer Murray has been the Cardiac Technician at CorVita Health & Associates since 2016. She has worked in cardiology for just over 20 years, with a focus in electrophysiology since 2014. Jennifer is responsible for cardiac monitoring, remote device monitoring and assisting Dr. Burke and the nurse practitioners with patient care. She has not only chosen a career in healthcare, but has taken on the role of caregiver for many family members, so she has a deep understanding of what not only patients, but their caregivers are going through when they or their loved ones are experiencing health issues.
